A Non-Negotiable Wave
A Non-Negotiable Wave

Against the heat
Of yet another summer
I wear a new
Red nylon slip
With lacey breasts
To bed

The book I'm reading
About storms at sea
Says waves
May be growing larger
Each year
With the warming atmosphere

A wave so large
Its name is "non-negotiable"
Here in the desert
Pine forest burns again
What am I to make
Of my desire for you?
Which despite age, separation, marriage
Remains non-negotiable.
